Should I start my own business?

Most people don’t wake up one morning and decide to start a business on a whim. It usually begins with something quieter that grows restlessness, an idea that won’t let go, or a realization that you were made for more than simply showing up and checking boxes.

For many of us, the desire to start a business is rooted in freedom. Financial freedom, obviously, but also the freedom to choose how we spend our time, who we give our energy to, and what kind of life we’re building day by day. It’s about wanting work to support your life, not consume it. It’s about being the CEO of your time while building a legacy for your family.

Starting your own business creates space to think beyond a paycheck and toward generational wealth and blessing. It allows you to build something that can bless your family, shape future generations, and reflect the values you care about most. There’s something powerful about knowing the work you’re doing today can create stability, opportunity, and vision for those who come after you.

At its core, entrepreneurship is about leadership and creativity. You weren’t designed to only work…you were designed to create, to lead, and to steward ideas with intention. A business becomes a place where your gifts, discipline, and faith come together to serve others while honoring the season of life you’re in.

Starting a business isn’t about escaping responsibility; it’s about embracing it. It’s choosing ownership of your time, your income, and your impact. And for many, it’s the most honest response to that quiet knowing that you were meant to build something meaningful.

When I first asked myself, “Should I start my own business?” the answer was always clear, a loud, unwavering yes! What I needed wasn’t more confirmation, but direction. I needed simple, practical first steps to help me move forward with confidence.

If your heart is whispering (or boldly declaring) that same yes, you’re not alone. I’ve shared a few free resources that helped guide my thinking and bring clarity as I began building my business, and I’d love for them to support you as well. Praying blessings over your business!
