How do I develop confidence as a new entrepreneur?

When I first started my entrepreneurial journey, I’ll be honest, I didn’t feel confident at all. When I started my second, my third, and even now my fourth, I still question every decision, worry if people will take me seriously, and struggle with how to share the true value that I feel my business has.

Here’s what I’ve learned: confidence doesn’t come from knowing everything. It comes from showing up, making decisions, and proving to yourself that you can handle whatever comes next. Have you ever walked on ice? At first, you do not put all of your weight down. You put your foot into place and test your foothold by shifting your weight a little bit at a time. Once you feel secure, then you take the step. Confidence in your business is built the same way. You took the first scary step by starting your business. Now, you are leaning a little bit of your weight onto that step to see if it will hold. That’s okay. You are exactly where you should be. Let’s break down how to put more trust, or confidence, into what you are building.

Step 1: Start with your why.
When you’re clear on why you’re building your business, it becomes easier to trust yourself. Your why is your anchor on the days when everything feels uncertain. For me, my why was helping women build structure and systems in their businesses and helping them believe that they could be the CEO of their life. That purpose kept me moving forward even when the fear kicked in.

Step 2: Celebrate small wins.
Confidence grows from experience, not from waiting to feel ready. Post that first Instagram Reel, send your first outreach email, or launch your first small offer. Each small win stacks up and reminds you that you can do this. I still remember the first time someone paid me for a service I offered. It was a mix of shock and exhilaration. That moment built more confidence than any business book or podcast ever could. It’s a feeling that I continue to chase!

Step 3: Embrace imperfection.
Perfectionism is a confidence killer. You don’t have to know everything to start. Share your progress publicly, make mistakes, and learn along the way. I learned more from flopped posts and failed ideas than from anything I did right the first time. Every misstep, or slip on the ice if you will, was proof that I could recover and grow.

Step 4: Build your circle.
Confidence is contagious. Surround yourself with people who believe in your vision, who push you forward, and who remind you why you started. Mentors, peers, or communities of like-minded entrepreneurs are worth their weight in gold. I wouldn’t have built my first offers without the encouragement of people cheering me on behind the scenes.

Step 5: Show up anyway.
Confidence isn’t the absence of fear; it’s the ability to act in spite of it. There will be days when fear whispers, “you can’t,” but showing up consistently builds momentum, and momentum builds confidence.

The truth is, confidence isn’t a switch you flip. It’s a muscle you strengthen over time. Every decision you make, every risk you take, and every lesson you learn adds a little more fuel. Before you know it, that fear turns into excitement, and that doubt becomes determination.

You don’t have to wait to feel ready. Start where you are, take the first step, and trust that confidence will meet you along the way.

Praying blessings on your business!
